Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas - About Us Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas is a group of musicians that have brought the best of Caribbean music to many parts of the world including the West Indies, the Virgin Islands, Trinidad, Florida, Las Vegas and California. Although Dutchy's Caribbean Band typically performs as a four piece group (Steel Drum, Guitar, Bass, & Keyboards), they are also often accompanied by brass and horn instruments (by request). They play music for all occasions - a uniquely wide repertoire of rhythms including: Calypso - Soca - Latin Salsa - Mambo - Bolero - Samba - Rumba - Standards - Bossanova - Reggae - along with some "Top 40" music. Music is selected to accommodate any occasion, including traditional Yuletide songs for the Christmas Season. Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas performs outdoors at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas was formed by the world renowned Orville "Dutchy" DeVlugt, who was originally part of the famous Dutchy Brothers Orchestra from Trinidad and Tobago - widely known in the 1960's and 70's for touring the Caribbean Islands, as well as the mainland United States. Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas has managed to carry that fame and success throughout the U.S Virgin Islands & Florida all the way across to Las Vegas & California, where they are now based. In 1998, Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas opened the JamCal Association Production of Reggae at the Ranch show in Malibu, California with other great performers such as, Rita Marley and the Macabees, the world famous reggae band Third World and many other fabulous acts from the beautiful Island of Jamaica. No matter how big the crowds are, Dutchy has a classic entertainer's rapport with the audience, making everybody feel at home, and have a great time! In the year 2000, Dutchy's Caribbean Tropicanas were specially selected to perform for the Democratic National Convention's exclusive parties held at the Casa Del Mar and Shutters Hotels on the beach in Santa Monica, California. They brought down the house for over a 1,000 dancing & foot tapping guests including President Bill Clinton and countless Senators & Delegates who were all very happy to meet and shake hands with Dutchy and the other band members after their performance.
